Before it sued Google for copying from Java, Oracle got rich copying IBM’s SQL
BackGround INFO
For more than a century now, Google and Oracle has been in a long and dreadful standoff. Oracle, who currently owns the programming language Java, is attempting to sue Google for copyright reasons due to Google implementing the Java language into its mobile operating system, Android. The lawsuit was initiated by Oracle back in 2010.
Article Summary
Basically to summarize everything I’ve read from the article. Google has been sued by Oracle in 2010 and the charge is due to copy right reasons. Oracle is accusing Google of using the Java language inside its mobile operating system — Android. Google however is appealing and stating that the content they’ve used is not or should not be included in the copyright violation. They also accused Oracle of doing the exact same when the company was launching. They copied the language SQL and sold data bases off of it. Lastly, Google mentioned that by banning such use of a programming language would harm startup companies and many costumers as the average consumer would most likely purchase something they know and trust, thus if this rule is implicated, smaller companies would lose many customers due to branding and scepticism.

I want the class to be aware that…
Nothing would really matter as Google makes over 100 Billion dollars in revenue each year. Oracle would at most be asking a couple billion dollars which would only make a dent in Googles yearly profits. What Google is actually worried about is their operating system and everyone else that is currently using it. This could potentially lead to diminishing number in sells and other variables that would contribute to the throttle in their revenue.
I am concerned that…
I am concerned that if perhaps Oracle does win the lawsuit, then Google will have to reimagine their Android system. During the progress customers may lose trust and begin to rate the companies as unreliable. Therefore, hurting revenues in all companies using Android and this is an opinion but: it will allow Apple to continue overpricing their products while producing mediocre items.

Another company / group that is involved is…
Many other companies are involved as not only Google uses Android. We probably all know Googles own phone, the Pixel which could possibly be a great competition as Alphabet Inc which is Googles parent organization owns and controls Android leaving them able to enhance the usability between their hardware and software accordingly. (Off Topic) What I’m trying to say is that the Pixel runs on Android and pretty much every single other cell phone manufactures also uses Android. Including but not limited to: Samsung, One Plus, LG, HTC, and etc. This would limit their ability to use the system therefore causing total inconvenience to mentioned companies and also the customers.
